And than suddenly the Sibeliusconcerts are over!
A report in English in order to make sure that most of our friends with another mother tongue may also be able to read it.
Saturday May 20th started out with a heavy shower and quite cold. Everything started at the much appreciated Sibeliusboxes, lent to us with great kindness by WonenBreBurg and guarded by Master of the House Hans van der Meer. Kim Mathura was the EELTfloor manager of the project with assistance of her trainee Maikel Ries. She had a clear scenario in her mind and led us through the day with a lovely smile and strict disciplin that felt like nice relaxed freedom. Cocreator CdT Erik Bodifee with his colleagues and trainees: Carola, Roy, Bram, Renée, Roos and Shermina managed everything with her. We should not forget to mention our golden EELTvolunteers of the project who were there at the concerts, but also at almost all other moments: Rob Dingemans and Monique Libregts.
The beautyful tent we got to use from the great team of great Frans van den Dries (Wijkraad Stokhasselt88) was erected just in time. The Wijkorkest (neighborhood orchestra under direction of Peter Paul van Est and Annemarie Eversdijk) could do its final rehearsal dry.
The music of the Wijkorkest was stunning. Especially taken into account that the orchestra only had two previous rehearsals. And the quality of the performance grew during the day with each of the concerts. The young orchestra behaved as if the tent was its natural habitat. Musicians from the neighborhood joined the musical party, as well as the professional musicians of EELT (Jacqueline Hamelink, Lieke Daniels, Tessa van Buuren, Oscar Trompenaars).
Singer songwriter Leonie and ut-player and singer Layla from the neighborhood performed as well.
Loes Reiling, musical director, of EELT had made transcriptions of the music of Sibelius for each intstrument and level. She created a tango version, a Sibelius hiphop rythm and more capricious variations that made the audience happy.
The miraculously revived composer Jean Sibelius (EELT actor Roel Kox) had a swell goodbye party. During the afternoon and early evening he got to hear his music three times at different grass fields in the Sibeliusstreet. Hundreds of residents joined him to enjoy this unique event.
There was not only music to enjoy. Volunteers of the neighborhood offered activities such as creative workshops, free snacks and beverages, a nail workshop, a make up workshop, children games, a language practicum, fresh pancakes, a table where the youngest audience was treated on stories from books.
Three colourfull spheres were pushed around at the locations. A better look revealed that instead of with paint they were covered in litter. The spheres - that also contained music - were made in commission of EELT by artist Tim Hobbelman and children from the neighborhood. By using litter in such a positive way EELT and CdT want to contribute to the consciousness in the neighborhood that trash actually is valuable material that can be used again and therefore should not end sadly in the street or bushes of beautyful Tilburg Noord.
During all activities the now well known "coats" were there in their pink coats to assist the audience, to chat with everybody and to make even more connections between neighbors in the street. They also found new volunteers for future activities, both for ContourdeTwern as for EELT.
Important Tilburg governors Marcelle Hendricks and Gon Mevis visited the concerts and actively joined in the activities.
As a nice climax after the concerts the residents could admire the elegant Sibeliusmobile once more, especially created for this project by EELT designer Reg Gruson. And for this special occasion people were invited to listen to their favorite song together with somebody else in the intimate Sibeliusmobile.
And all of this was executed under direction of and according to the concept of artistic leader of EELT Monique Zijp.

Tim Hobbelman, visual artist, talent ready to be challenged, was invited by EELT Theatercollectief artistic leader Monique Zijp to participate in community art project 'Sibelius at the frontdoor'. (Cocreated by EELT and ContourdeTwern Noord)
He was asked to create "a portrait" (in a broad sense) of Sibelius using litter found in the Sibeliusstraat. The commission was to create this in collaboration with residents and Sibeliuskids.
He came up with the idea of colourful spheres, covered with litter used as "paint", as a reference to the colourful northern light that may have inspired Sibelius for his music.
Many residents, children, fellow artists and friends helped him to find litter in the right colours. That was not easy!
Than he installed speakers in two of the spheres.
And so the Sibelius soundscape created by EELTcomposer Loes Reiling sounded mysteriously from the Sibelius spheres while they were rolled in the Sibeliusparade that followed the Sibeliusmobiel, designed and created by Reg Gruson..
Er zijn op dit moment geen evenementen gepland.
